As a young housewife and mother of three, Mary Kay Ash needed some extra cash to
make ends meet so she started in direct sales representing a series of childrens books that
offered moral lessons. With no selling experience and little training, in only a few months
she became the #1 sales person for these books! When her marriage took a turn for the
worst, she then contributed her sales talent to selling cleaning and household supplies at
home parties. Although she was mistreated and underpaid because she was a woman, she
remained here for 25 years. When she retired in 1963 she was inspired to write a guide
for working women based on her own experiences in the corporate world. At this
point, she had no idea that this book would be the beginning of her own world just as
she had written it. In her book, she included a list of the traits that described an ideal
company for women. This company would give women a chance to be successful and do
what they enjoyed doing at the same time. This direct sales company is known today as
Mary Kay Cosmetics. With a $5000 dollar loan, she opened a small shop in Dallas,
Texas: Mary Kay Cosmetics. Nine sales women, her 20 year old son, and herself launched
their mission to sell these cosmetics at home parties. Mary Kay Ashs sudden realization
and extreme motivation to make a difference for women combined to form what is now
the #1 cosmetic direct sales business in the World!
Mary Kay Ash's srength and her devotion to what she believed in during the many trials and tribulations in her early womanhood has been extremely moving and motivational for me!
Mary Kay Cosmetics was created with this same strength and devotion.
Be a part of the Mary Kay "world" and these characteristics will become a part of you her and hopefully for you too!
